The Sterling Silver Sapphire Earrings You'll Reach for Every Single Morning
There is a version of 'good jewellery' that spends most of its life in a drawer.
And then there is the Hari Wave.
These sterling silver drop earrings with lab-grown sapphires were not designed for special occasions. They were designed for 6:47am on a Tuesday, when you are running slightly behind and need something that will carry the whole look without a second thought. They were designed for the coffee shop, the client meeting, the dinner that turns into something longer than expected. They were designed to be so light and so right that you forget you are wearing fine jewellery at all, until you catch a glimpse of deep blue in a window and remember.
That is the goal. That is the Hari Wave.
The Shape: A 2.5cm Arc That Traces Your Ear's Natural Line
We spent a long time with the silhouette of this earring, longer, honestly, than we expected.
The 'wave' is not a decorative metaphor. It is a functional description. The earring traces a gentle 2.5cm arc that follows the natural curve of the ear, sitting close to the lobe at the top and sweeping away from the jaw at the drop. The effect is movement-without-motion: even standing completely still, the Hari Wave has a kinetic quality, a sense that it might be mid-gesture.
We call this a sculptural drop earring rather than a standard drop because the shape is three-dimensional, it has depth as well as curve, which catches light from multiple angles rather than presenting a flat face to the room.
The Stones: Why We Paired Lab Sapphires with Moissanite Baguettes
At the centre of each wave sits a single lab-grown sapphire vivid, saturated, a shade of blue that genuinely stops people mid-sentence.
We chose lab-grown sapphires for two reasons, and neither of them is purely economic.
First: consistency. Lab-grown sapphires have a richness and uniformity of colour that mined sapphires which vary wildly by origin, cannot reliably match. When you order the Hari Wave, the blue you see in our photography is the blue you will receive.
Second: values. Lab-grown gemstones carry none of the environmental or ethical complications of mined stones. For a piece you are going to wear every day, you want it to feel genuinely clean, in both senses of the word.
Tracing the arc of the wave are moissanite baguettes: brilliant-cut, high-fire stones that act as a luminous frame for the sapphire's depth. The combination saturated blue anchored by scattered white brilliance, is one of the most versatile colour stories in fine jewellery. It reads blue against white. It reads navy against colour. It picks up warm tones in candlelight and stays fresh and modern in daylight.
Why Sterling Silver (Not Gold) Was the Right Choice for This Piece
This is a question we anticipated, and we have a genuine answer rather than a diplomatic one.
We make pieces in 14k and 18k gold. We love gold. Gold is our primary material across the studio. But for the Hari Wave, specifically for its positioning as a luxury everyday earring, sterling silver was correct.
Here is why:
-
Weight. 925 sterling silver is noticeably lighter than gold at equivalent volume. For an earring you are wearing for eight, ten, twelve hours at a time, that difference is significant comfort.
-
Temperature. Silver does not hold heat in the same way gold does, it adjusts to body temperature almost instantly, which makes it ideal for all-day wear.
-
Finish. The cool brightness of sterling silver makes the deep blue of the sapphire pop in a way warm gold simply does not. The contrast is starker, more graphic, more modern.
-
Hypoallergenic. Our 925 sterling silver is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive ears, no nickel, no compromise.
We use recycled 925 sterling silver across all Moyiola Abeo pieces where silver is the primary metal, an extension of our commitment to ethical luxury that starts before the stone is ever set.
Caring for Your Hari Wave Earrings
Sterling silver is durable and long-lived with minimal care. Here is what we recommend:
-
Store in the Moyiola Abeo pouch or a lined box away from direct sunlight to slow tarnishing.
-
Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying perfume, not because the silver will be damaged, but because soap and chlorine can dull the stone's brilliance over time.
-
Clean with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. For deeper cleaning, a gentle silver polishing cloth works well.
-
The lab-grown sapphires and moissanite baguettes are extremely durable and require no special stone care.
With basic care, your Hari Wave earrings will look as sharp in ten years as they do on the day they arrive.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are the Hari Wave earrings suitable for sensitive ears?
Yes. We use 925 sterling silver, which is hypoallergenic and nickel-free. The earring posts are also sterling silver. If you have a documented allergy to silver specifically, we recommend consulting your jeweller before purchasing, but for the vast majority of people with sensitive ears, these are a safe and comfortable choice.
2. What type of earring back is used?
The Hari Wave uses a secure butterfly back (also called a push back), which is the most comfortable and reliable fitting for a drop earring of this length. It holds the earring firmly without pinching and is easy to fasten one-handed.
3. How long are the Hari Wave earrings?
The wave arc measures 2.5cm from lobe to drop. This is a considered length, present enough to be seen from across a room, short enough not to catch on scarves or high collars. They are not chandelier earrings; they are architectural drop earrings.
4. Can I wear the Hari Wave earrings with other Moyiola Abeo pieces?
These earrings were designed to work as a standalone piece, but they layer beautifully. The deep blue of the sapphire pairs particularly well with our Urchin Crest collar necklace for a high-jewellery moment, or worn alone with a stacking ring set for a more casual approach. We offer a complimentary styling consultation if you would like help building a look.
5. Do you offer the Hari Wave in gold?
Currently, the Hari Wave is offered exclusively in 925 sterling silver, a deliberate design choice rather than a limitation. If you are interested in a bespoke gold version, please contact us through our atelier page to discuss a custom commission.
